July 2018 Staff Picks

Corsets & Codpieces
by Karen Bowman
Tania's Pick

Are you as bored with fashion as I am? It feels like we’ve been stuck in the same tasteful rut since the turn of the century. This book explores those who dared to go big and/or go home.

Hero of Ages
by Brandon Sanderson
Sarah's Pick

The third book in the Mistborn trilogy. At this point in the series you might think you know what’s happening and how this book will end. Hint: you don’t.

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
by J.R.R. Tolkien
Michael's Pick

My favorite part of the greatest novel of all time.

Wolves of the Calla (The Dark Tower 5)
by Stephen King
Michael's Pick

"I’ve never dared handle it, but I’ve seen it. Felt its power … I have Black Thirteen under the floorboards of my church. And it’s come alive. Do you understand me? It’s come alive."
Part 5 of Stephen King’s Dark Tower saga finds Roland and his ka-tet continuing their journey through Mid World, by the end of which they learn of the terrible consequences of the sacrifice Susannah made in The Waste Lands to bring a certain character to Mid World from our world. To me, Wolves is the last great part of The Dark Tower.

The Wonder
by Emma Donoghue
Chelsea's Pick

Maddening yet enthralling.
